Military
I served with the 2nd Admin Co., 2nd ID, from February, 1963 to November, 1964, on Sand Hill at Ft. Benning, GA. I was a payroll clerk in the Finance Section. My cross training was as an M-60 gunner and a duce-n-a-half and a jeep driver. I was a PFC when I was discharged. My nick name was ÂMaynardÂ.

niversity part-time when I was drafted. I only served two years active duty. I did not have to serve any active reserve because they didnÂt have a place for me with my MOS. I accumulated two years of ROTC in college, but did not pursue it further.
I have the book and movie ÂWe Were Soldiers Once by Hal Moore. Some of those soldiers could very well have been on the payrolls that I managed. The 1st Air Cav left for Vietnam just six months after I left Sand Hill.
